These are ordinary straight stitches, which, due to the movement of the needle to the right and left, lie on the fabric in a zigzag pattern. Any sewing machine performs a zigzag stitch.

Zigzag stitch

1) One of the first purposes of a zigzag line is the processing of open sections of a product in the absence of an overlock.

2) When making loops on a sewing machine.

3) For joining parts end to end.

4) A zigzag stitch is used to tune appliques and individual details, for example, when creating a bag of jeans shreds:

5) For additional or decorative fixation of parts, for example, with the "invisible" processing of the patch pocket on the lining.

How to set a zigzag stitch

To set the zigzag stitch, simply switch the position of your sewing machine according to the instructions. The installed zigzag stitch will be of medium length and width.

Depending on your sewing project, you can change the standard stitch length and stitch width to the necessary one, for example:

► Maximum stitch length with standard stitch width - use to process open sections of the product.

► Maximum width of a zigzag stitch - use for sewing individual parts and for sewing knitwear.

► The width of the zigzag stitch is less than the standard.

Use to tune appliqués and stitch individual parts butt.

► The minimum width of the zigzag stitch (dense zigzag).

Use to tune applications.

The examples listed are not exhaustive. Try it, experiment. Before applying the new parameters of the zigzag stitch on the product, test them on a shred of fabric. And do not forget to reverse the stitch in the same way as for a straight stitch.

Easy sewing and interesting sewing projects!
