Chanel-style fringe is usually made by hand. We show one of the simplest ways in which the fringe is thick, easily applicable and firmly fixed.
You will need:
- the remains of the main fabric of the desired length (if a whole strip of fabric is not found, then you can use short fragments of any length, after first grinding them together).
Besides:
- a flap of thin fabric, for example, silk chiffon;
- needle and thread for sewing;
- tailor pins;
- scissors;
- ruler
DIY fringed braid
Step 1
Determine the desired fringe width.
And cut a strip of fabric for its manufacture 2 times wider and equal in length to the fringed area.
The width of my fringe is 3 cm, so the width of the strip is 6 cm.
Step 2
From a chiffon, cut a strip with a width equal to the width of the cut strip from the main fabric or a little less, and a length equal to the length of the decorated area.
Step 3
Place the chiffon part on the front side of the main fabric part, aligning them in the center. Can be fixed with pins or swept.
Stitch details along the center. Minimum stitch width - 1 mm.
Finished parts.
Step 4
On both sides of the part, remove the longitudinal threads from the main fabric, creating a fringe.
For convenience, the part can be cut across in several places close to the line.
The tape is almost ready.
Step 5
After the fringe is formed on both sides of the line, it is necessary to iron the details, folding each in half, in different directions from the line.
If necessary, trim the fringe and braid. I cut the braid to a width equal to the width of the allowance of the product that I will decorate - 1.5 cm.
Thus, we obtained a double fringe, fixed on a chiffon braid.
How to weave a chanel-style galun: two easy ways
Tip: if the fringe threads are poorly ironed and do not lie, you can fix them with a narrow zigzag directly over the fold.
Such a braid can be used to decorate products by combining the chiffon part with allowances, and then turning the allowance with the braid to the wrong side.
The stitch is laid right in the seam of the fringe and chiffon braid.
The allowance can be trimmed or closed with a grinder and lining.
Fringed trim is often used in tweed, boucle and costume fabrics.
The presented method can be used to process the bottom of a skirt or dress, sleeves, vertical lines of patch panels of wrap skirts, belts and basques.
