Rebecca's work combines patchwork of vintage fabrics with free machine embroidery.

About the page author

Rebecca Bruton, our current heroine, calls herself a textile artist. In her works, an application from carefully selected, interesting (by the way, often vintage) fabrics is combined with free machine embroidery (more about it is a little lower).

“Textile is my passion!” Rebecca exclaims. “I think it was born in my childhood, thanks to my grandmother with her collection of fabrics and all kinds of haberdashery that simply fascinated me.” Rebecca earned a degree in fine art sculpture and then studied art. For some time she worked in schools and colleges, teaching fine arts and working with textiles. “And when I became a mother,” says Rebecca, “it inspired me to finally devote myself to creating my own creations. I used to teach others to create, and to do it myself turned out to be a little scary, but incredibly exciting!”

Now Rebecca not only works on her own creations, but also continues to teach others in courses and seminars, now - already in her own way. Plus - she hosts exhibitions and specialized publications publish her works.

What is this page about

With free machine embroidery, which Rebecca uses, the pattern is not set by the machine program, but is done by manually moving the hoop under the needle. The stitches and stitches are not as perfectly aligned as with the familiar machine embroidery, but alive, eye-catching. Rebecca speaks of this method as "threading." In her work, she often uses the same fabrics from her grandmother’s “treasury” and generally loves retroprints, by her own admission, more than modern ones. She buys some vintage fabrics in thrift stores, plus she uses shreds from unnecessary clothes.
