Hubert de Givenchy was born on February 21, 1927 in the French town of Beauvais. He lost his father early, and his mother was engaged in his upbringing, the son admired his elegance and taste all his life.
In 1945, he began working as a model painter for Jacques Fat, one of the most popular designers of those years. Later he collaborated with Elsa Schiaparelli, from whom Givenchy learned to master the material, the purity of forms and lines, and cut.

In 1952, Hubert de Givenchy, at the age of 25, opened his Fashion House in Paris on George V. Avenue. His first Haute Couture collection “Bettina Graziani” was shown there, which brought him unprecedented success in the fashion world. Two years later, Hubert met the great Cristobal Balenciaga, who later became his friend and teacher.
In 1953, Hubert de Givenchy first met Audrey Hepburn, who until the end of her life remained a devoted fan of the designer’s talent and his muse.
